Alternative Family Activities :
Social and recreational activities excluding alcohol, tobacco and other drugs:
“Family Night”, is an alternative activity for families and other community members where no alcohol, tobacco and other drugs are served. It is a regular monthly educational and recreational activity to support the Parenting Program, and Alcohol, Tobacco, And Other Drug Use Prevention Program. This activity allows parents and their children quality time together; strengthen family communication and family bonds. Each "Family Night" identifies different Risk/Protective Factors: 30-day use, Age at First Use, Attitude Toward Use (Disapproval of drug use), Attitude Toward Use (Favorable attitudes toward use), Perceived Harm/Risk (Perceived Harm), Perceived Parental Attitudes Toward ATOD Use, Resistance Skills, Life Skills (Decision making skills), Family Cohesion. Some activities include parents and children roll-playing different topics i.e. communication skills building exercises, to enhance listening, verbal and none verbal communication. There are incentives for participation and refreshments are served.
